Hi coach,
How often do I need to clean my bat and is it safe to use sponge and water for cleaning it?
How long can I use a rubber before changing it and are there ways to make the rubber last longer?
Hi Sharlynne,
You should give your bat a quick clean after each time you use it. It is fine to simply use a damp sponge. Don't use too much water or leave it wet.
As a rough guide, a rubber will last around 80 playing hours before you need to change it. The best thing you can do to make sure the rubber lasts as long as it should, is to keep it out of direct sunlight and put it back in a bat cover when you are not using it.

My coach says I shouldn't let my bat get damp so wouldn't a sponge make the rubber damp.

If you use just a damp sponge the water will soon evaporate. Only use it on the rubber not on the wood.

That helps a lot. Thanks

I've just cleaned my bat and it still has a bit of dust. I only used a few drops of water . Is that enough?

You may need a little more water if it has not removed the dust. Don't be worried to put water on the rubber. As long as you dry it off withi a few minutes it won't effect your rubber at all.
