Hi Coach Rosario,

I was wondering whether I have the right technique or not. I am an intermediate 13 year old attempting to become a professional player later on, and when I play against my friend of similar skill I create good points but I am not sure if it is good technique to develop further. Will a club help with this?

Hi James,

Great to hear from an aspiring player like yourself! It's fantastic that you're focused on improving your game and thinking critically about your technique. Regarding your question, technique is indeed crucial as you progress in table tennis. Since you're already creating good points against a friend of similar skill, you have a solid foundation to build on. However, whether your technique will continue to serve you well as you develop and face tougher opponents is something to consider carefully. Joining a table tennis club can definitely help in this regard. A club environment offers several advantages:

1. Coaching: Most clubs have experienced coaches who can observe your playing style and provide personalised feedback on your technique. They can help fine-tune your strokes, serve, footwork, and overall strategy.

2. Diverse Opponents: Playing against a variety of players with different styles and skill levels can expose any weaknesses in your game and challenge you to adapt and improve.

3. Structured Practice: Clubs often offer structured practice sessions, drills, and possibly even fitness routines, all of which are essential for developing your skills systematically. I'd recommend finding a local club where you feel comfortable, ideally one that has programs aimed at youth development. This could provide you with the resources and guidance needed to polish your technique and take your game to the next level.

Keep up the passion and dedication, James. The path to becoming a professional is challenging but very rewarding! Feel free to update me on your progress or ask more questions as they arise. Best of luck!
